Snippets of advice to keep you and your business safe and protected from scammers.

The Cyber Security Report 2023, published by Hornetsecurity has revealed that 40.5% of work emails are unwanted.

Phishing remains the most common style of email attack, representing 39.6% of all detected threats, with the following file types being used most frequently to deliver payloads,

  • Archive files (Zip, 7z, etc.)
  • HTML files
  • DOC(X)

Of note is that social media platforms, such as LinkedIn are being utilised to gather information for social engineering.

So what can you do?

  • Look out for words in emails, like, ‘urgent’, invoice, confidential etc.
  • Check the email address against the domain it purports to come from
  • Read before clicking anything, spelling and grammatical errors are common.
  • Look out for attachments and links!
  • In doubt? Don’t open, don’t click. What’s the worst that is going to happen?
